Our project in its simplest form is an educational augmented reality weather visualization tool. Visualizing the complex systems of weather can be a difficult task for students in their increasingly busy lives. Meteorology is a branch of atmospheric sciences which includes atmospheric chemistry and physics. Meteorology often contains many abstract concepts such as the formation of tornadoes and thunderstorms. These concepts are often presented with outdated paper graphs and drawings such as the formation of a tornado graph supplied at the left of this page from the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Though these diagrams are helpful, they do not do justice to the complexity of these systems and leave most to the imagination. Using the power of Augmented Reality (AR), we hope to achieve a cheap, accessible, and interactive solution to the problem of the difficulties of visualizing meteorology for students.
